The Countless Options in Wall Fountains

A small patio or a courtyard is a great place to situate your wall fountain when you seek peace and quiet. You can have one made to suit your specifications even if you have a small amount of space. Whether it is stand alone or fitted, you will require a spout, a water bowl, internal piping, and a pump. There are any number of models to choose from most notably traditional, contemporary, classic, or Asian.

Also knownas a floor fountain, a stand-alone wall fountain is normally rather large, and its basin is installed on the ground.

The First Modern Outdoor Wall Fountains

Pope Nicholas V, himself a well educated man, governed the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455 during which time he commissioned many translations of old classical Greek documents into Latin. Beautifying Rome and making it the worthy capital of the Christian world was at the heart of his ambitions. Starting in 1453, the ruined ancient Roman aqueduct known as the Aqua Vergine which had brought fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away, underwent restoration at the behest of the Pope. The ancient Roman tradition of building an imposing commemorative fountain at the location where an aqueduct arrived, also known as a mostra, was resurrected by Nicholas V. The architect Leon Battista Alberti was directed by the Pope to construct a wall fountain where we now see the Trevi Fountain. The water which eventually furnished the Trevi Fountain as well as the renown baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona came from the modified aqueduct which he had renovated.

Statuary As a Staple of Classic Art in Ancient Greece

The initial freestanding statuary was designed by the Archaic Greeks, a recognized achievement since until then the only carvings in existence were reliefs cut into walls and columns. Kouros figures, sculptures of adolescent, good-looking male or female (kore) Greeks, made up the greater part of the statues. Representing beauty to the Greeks, the kouroi were crafted to look rigid and commonly had foot forward; the males were vigorous, powerful, and nude. The kouroi grew to be life-sized beginning in 650 BC. The Archaic period was turbulent for the Greeks as they progressed into more refined forms of government and art, and obtained more data about the peoples and cultures outside of Greece. Similar to many other periods of historical conflict, conflicts were common, and there were struggles between city-states like The Arcadian wars, the Spartan invasion of Samos.

The Fountains

Water fountains were originally practical in function, used to bring water from canals or springs to cities and villages, providing the inhabitants with clean water to drink, bathe, and prepare food with. The force of gravity was the power source of water fountains up until the close of the 19th century, using the forceful power of water traveling down hill from a spring or creek to squeeze the water through spigots or other outlets. Striking and impressive, prominent water fountains have been built as memorials in many societies. If you saw the first fountains, you probably would not recognize them as fountains. The 1st accepted water fountain was a natural stone basin carved that was used as a receptacle for drinking water and ceremonial purposes. The earliest stone basins are believed to be from about 2000 B.C.. The spraying of water appearing from small jets was forced by gravity, the lone power source creators had in those days.Fountains 2568519911605015318.jpg Drinking water was delivered by public fountains, long before fountains became elaborate public statues, as beautiful as they are functional. The Romans began creating elaborate fountains in 6 BC, most of which were metallic or stone masks of wildlife and mythological characters. The remarkable aqueducts of Rome supplied water to the incredible public fountains, many of which you can go see today.Discover Peace Outdoor Fountains 348981683076097287.jpg
